David and Melia came to the company with many years of business experience. The addition of over $300,000 worth of their personal gold and silver inventory was a great addition to the website. Sadly, David passed away just a few months after they purchased the business. Melia has kept W.S. Coin and continues to run the business with the help of several full-time employees. Recently remarried, she is now Melia Frank.
Washington Square Coin,(now W.S.Coin, Inc.) was started by Jim Kellison in 1978 part time and in 1980 moved to historic Marysville, California. Marysville is in Northern California and about an hour's drive north of Sacramento, California. Marysville is one of California's oldest towns and is nestled in the foothills at the heart of California's Gold Country (Yuba Gold fields).
Being a rare coin and paper money collector, Jim decided to follow his first love, coin collecting. He opened a retail store to service the collector's needs, and share his vast knowledge of numismatics.
In the fall of 1983, the firm expanded to a much larger facility (6500 square feet), located in historic downtown Marysville. From 1980 to 1995 the company set up at coin shows. In 1996 they put WSCoin.com on the Internet.
Jim's life long tradition of sound, responsible business practices continues to be the foundation upon which W.S.Coin, Inc., has built its success. His personal reputation for honesty and fair business practices in all buying and selling situations, continued by the Campbell's, has given the firm a loyal local and national customer base.
In the Fall of 1995, the firm went online with their first database driven coin site and felt that their very competitive prices would allow them to sell very efficiently over the Internet. Since then this has been a very successful business venture with thousands of worldwide customers.
Jim enjoyed dealing with collectors of all types. Perhaps that's why he spent 8 to 10 hours daily working with them in the store and on the Web. Michelle came to work with Jim in 1996 to build the web site and was trained by Jim to become a coin dealer. She is still with the company today.
With all the changes technology brings, we are still dedicated to customer service. While our sales continue to rise, and our customer numbers increase, you as an individual is still what drives us. We love what we do and want to share our knowledge with others. We strive to always be fair and never deviate from honesty and integrity.
